Black Forest Bike Marathon LIGHT on 12 September 2021

Despite all Corona-related uncertainties, the organisers of the Black Forest Bike Marathon took the plunge to set up a ‘light’ version of the mountain bike marathon for 2021. Just under 900 people took part, each one covering a distance of either 42 km or 60 km. The longer stretches were cancelled on account of Corona.

So what was it like? Brilliant!!!

The ‘HERMLE AG schneller Span’ team (‘HERMLE AG fast Chip’) with its 27 participants was also in ‘light’ mode, as were the significantly reduced teams from other big companies.

The ‘fast Chips’ all made it past the post and lived up to their name, as several achieved excellent rankings. The fastest team member was Andreas Weiss (KE). Gerd Krämer (HLS) even made it onto the podium in his age group. Others took more time, either because of breakdowns or because of the superb porcino mushrooms to be found under way: Gourmet Marcin Zielinski on the 60 km route simply could not resist them. A new and unexpected source of problems came from single-use masks getting caught up in the gears. Fortunately, the team’s injuries were confined to a few grazes. In the company ranking, the team had to concede victory to ‘top dogs’ MAGNA and SIEDLE this year, both of whom fielded larger teams. Congratulations to all those who completed the course!

This year, the ‘fast Chips’ were able to contribute a total of 1422 kilometres to the Hildegard and Katharina Hermle Foundation fundraising event, which translated into a donation of 28,440 euros. There is also a tradition by which a proportion of the starting fees goes to the Katharinenhöhe. In addition to these social contributions, this unusual cycling marathon in unusual times gave rise to many pleasant memories. Our thanks go to the Black Forest Bike Marathon organizers for making this event possible, and to all the ‘fast Chips’ for taking part!
